A school-district boiler room under a mechanical contractor's coordination: two 4M BTU firetubes, six expansion tanks hung from the ceiling, a heat exchanger and the piping between them, with an abatement crew working the same building.

What we walked into
Firetubes don't come apart; they get cut, and the pieces have to fit the path out of a basement mechanical room. Six expansion tanks overhead and a heat exchanger meant rigging from above and below in the same space, while the project's asbestos abatement ran on its own schedule that ours had to respect.
The approach
How it went
- Cut the piping at the termination points agreed with the mechanical contractor and left them ready for the new plant.
- Sectioned both firetubes into pieces sized for the route out; rigged the expansion tanks down from the ceiling one at a time.
- Sequenced the work around the abatement contractor so neither crew waited on the other.
- Segregated scrap and debris streams, protected the floor and area, and swept the room before handing it back.

Room cleared and documented in three working days to the district's site standard, on the mechanical contractor's schedule for the new plant.
